Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is from the fourth generation of Roberts family to have been a resident of Atlanta. The story began with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. At an early age the father of her mother became obsessed with acting. As a college students studying at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he took part in numerous productions. He joined the military in 1953 and, while working in Biloxi Mississippi, he was a part of the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the Air force. They got married in 1955. Their first child, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter attended Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana following his departure from the Air Force in 1957. Walter began his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou began producing a children's television program in the city of Decatur, Georgia titled Bum Bum and His Buddies. The production was funded by the couple themselves. In the following year, they established the Actors and Writers Workshop which was in operation for six years. Lelisa Billingsley who is also referred to as Lisa was born in 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
